Day 40 - Wall Art

Today I went with some friends to Blackhouse Grill in Lipa City to watch them play music. They were amazing, as usual. And the art on this wall's not bad either. :)

Day 38 - at 4:30 on 4/30

We "closed" another bar today, me and my musician friends. Their gig really started on April 29, but didn't end until the early morning of April 30. Lucky this bar closes at 4 a.m., though we still hung around outside until past that. I took this photo at 4:30. 4:30 on 4/30.

The name of this place is Today X Future, but my friends who are there all the time just call it "Future." Now I call it "Future," too and feel like such an insider. :P

Anyway, music stuff on the floor is property of my friends. And isn't that doorway so artsy.

Day 28 - Too Many Feelings, Not Enough Chairs (Part 2)

So after the gig, we all went to Z&K's place as it's near DITO. There were so many of us, the only way we could fit in their house was by sitting on the floor. And nobody complained.

This is one of the things I love about Philippine culture--that camaraderie is more important than most other things. Z&K knew perfectly well that their house wasn't built to accommodate such big groups, but they welcomed us all the same. And they were such great hosts, too, letting everyone know where the restroom was and offering us all water and other things they could find in their fridge. I had a really nice time. :)

Also: The blog title is something my friend C said when she and some friends were at my house and some of us had to sit on the porch the chairs outside were too few. It seems no house ever has enough chairs for when a lot of people come to visit. And feelings are always too many. :P

Day 22 - Music and Friendship

I know it looks like one of them is singing to the other, but really, sleepersecond's just asking Paincake Patrol a question and both of them are "kind of" drunk.

Also, they are two of the most determined musicians I know. I would say that they are talented, but I know they don't like that term and prefer to be known as determined and industrious instead. So there. Insert more positive adjectives here. Their music is awesome.

Day 15 - Paincake Patrol in the House / in the South

My friend Paincake Patrol booked a gig in the South so my friend M and I were obliged to attend. Kidding! We really like his music and enjoy going to his gigs and were quite thankful that he finally had a gig in the South so it wasn't too difficult for us to go and see him. In fact, we just walked to this venue after having dinner at my house. Fun Sunday night!

Day 10 - Pasinaya 2016

The line to see the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra was so long, M and I could only get seats at the very top of the theatre. Hence, this very difficult and then turned out to be mostly worthless shot :P But I think our smiling faces are still able to convey some of the emotions we felt during this day. I say some because we felt a lot of emotions this day. A whole lot. Just ask me about it if you see me personally if you'd like to find out why. ;)

Day 339 - Mahal Mo, Mahal Ko, Mahal Nating Lahat

Natawa lang ako kasi parang malabong conversation between two people 'yung mga title ng kanta. Try mo basahin nang sunud-sunod tapos imagine mo na taking turns sa pagsabi ng each line 'yung dalawang tao. :P

And yes, nagdala ng Magic Sing w/ Tagalog chips sa New Zealand 'yung isang friend ni Ate dahil ganun kami ka-deprived sa videoke. Hehehe!

Day 331 - NZ KTV

We went to what I think is the only KTV place in Wellington, Taste of Korea, for my sister's "hen party". That's in quotation marks because my sister's not really into hen parties. We kind of just really wanted to sing our hearts out. We did go to a bar and had so many drinks after this, but that's another story. ;)

Day 330 - Entertaining Guests

We went to one of my aunts' house to watch the opening of the Rugby World Cup, which they'd recorded from TV. While we were waiting for my aunt to set up, her 11-year-old daughter J played the piano.

Day 220 - The Last One

ERASERHEADS AND SUGARFREE - I think it's strange that Ebe Dancel (Sugarfree vocalist) wears an Eraserheads t-shirt just after I established in my mind that they (Sugarfree) were the band that replaced the Eraserheads.*sigh* Great things will always come and go I guess. Of course, during the gig people kept joking about a reunion concert. Well, the Eraserheads had one, so I guess maybe Sugarfree can have one, too. :)

Awww... Why do bands break-up anyway? I mean, I know why, but... Why?? T_T

I took this photo just after the Sugarfree set finished at 19 East (bar/restaurant in Sucat, Paranaque). E and I went to the stage to take photos with the band, and successfully cornered bassist Jal, but drummer Kaka magically disappeared, and we just could not get Ebe to pose with us because too many people were asking for his picture and his autograph, such as in this picture. But E and I stayed late (waiting for my brother to pick me up) and found the band members again outside, with less people around them. So we still got to take pictures with them. Yay!

Anyway, this post is titled The Last One (Yeah, I got the idea from FRIENDS. So what?) because the gig at 19 East is the last of the Sugarfree Farewell Bar Tour. Although the actual last gig will be on March 1, but it's in Eastwood in Quezon City, so yeah... I'm not going. I don't even know where Eastwood actually is. -_- But I'm happy that two of their last 5 bar gigs are in the South. :)

Day 214 - 214

If I'd been more diligent in taking pictures for this 365 Project, maybe February 14 (2/14) would've been Day 214. But February 14 was only Day 210, so I'm making up for it by posting a picture of something else 214-related.

This is the original cassette tape of RiverMaya's very first album where the song 214 first came out. I've managed to break all my cassette tape players so I can't play this anymore, but I do have a CD with the song so as I write this, I'm actually listening to 214.

So right now I feel like I'm in 1994 again. Sugarfree's break up is bringing about all this nostalgia for old school OPM.

Day 213 - Sugarfree Shirt!

E said to meet today because he had a surprise gift for me. It's an autographed Sugarfree t-shirt!

And look, it says 1999-2011, which is how long the band has been together, and how long I've been their fan, too. Awww, this really makes me nostalgic and sad. But hey! Autographed shirt! :D

Day 208 - The Last Few

One of my favoritest OPM bands (they were my replacement for the Eraserheads!), Sugarfree, is breaking up (sort of, the lead vocalist is leaving). Hence, we're all adjusting our schedules to catch their last few gigs. Lucky one of them is in Parañaque, which is near where I live, and even luckier, I actually have friends who want to see their last few performances as well.

So, K, M and I along with K's brother and his girlfriend went to Pap's Place in Better Living Subdivision today to watch Sugarfree. I nearly cried when they sang Burnout. Not only is it one of my favorite songs, it's also totally emotional.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. I took this using my cellphone because I didn't bring my camera. But another camera flashed at just the right time and shed light on the band, which is why they're visible here. My other pictures came out too dark.

I will miss them so much.

Day 194 - New Song Book

Part of a page of the song list for our new videoke machine (we got it Christmas last year). I had to insert about a hundred pages in the leaves of a clearbook. Just one of the fun, no-brainer activities I'm always doing. :P

Day 171 - Stop, Look and Listen

I was really in a hurry to meet with my friends for dinner, but there are just some things that make you stop, look, listen and maybe forget everything else.

At first I thought it was just a random band because they were singing Christmas songs, but then the last line of the song was suddenly "tulad ng dati..." and I was so happy to realize that my it was my favorite OPM band, The Dawn, who was at the middle of Glorietta performing. And Jett Pangan (vocalist) and I were both wearing red that day, too. (Haha! Ang babaw ko talaga!)

Anyway, I watched them perform around 3 more songs before I finally went to meet my friends. And when I saw them they told me that before they went to our meeting place they stopped and listened to a few songs of The Dawn, too. Awww, I love my friends who have the same taste in music as I do.

P.S. I know I always say that I'm a Rico Blanco fangirl, and I love his and Rivermaya's songs to death, but when talking of OPM bands and not vocalists/song writers, The Dawn is really my favorite. :)

Day 168 - Coins for Carolers

Caroling season has begun! Or, it's supposed to. I still haven't heard actual carolers though. Is it me or are there less and less kids in our village who are interested in making extra money during the holidays? Granted they'll only get a few coins per house, but when I was a kid, by the end of 10 days, my friends and I would've collected about P80 each, which, you know, is pretty big for a kid back then.

Anyway, we're at least prepared if ever carolers come by our house. These are the coins we put near the front door. They're not much now, but maybe my mom will put in more when this supply runs out.

Day 164 - Christmas Choir 2

I will now assume that SM malls have a choir perform Christmas songs at least every Saturday for this and last month. This is another one that I had a chance to watch/listen to today. They're pretty good. :)

I actually took a video of the song they performed after I took this shot (sadly they didn't sing a Christmas song on their next number, Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, but they did have dance steps) but the video from my cellphone sucks (as do the pictures, actually). I really shouldn't forget to bring a proper camera when I go out of the house next time.

Anyway, I was a bit more fascinated with this choir as opposed to last time, because this choir had more people in the audience. Or maybe that has something to do with the time, because this performance was around 6PM. The other one, I took that photo around 3PM.

P.S. I'm sorry I skipped a lot of days. There's just not much to take pictures of at home.

Day 142 - The Last Hour of Rock

Today is the last day of my favorite local radio station. Actually, the only radio station I really really liked. Okay, so I listen to other radio stations too, and for the past few years, the DJs on this station haven't been all that great, and so I haven't been listening to it that often, but... I used to always feel comfortable knowing that whenever I get sick of the mainstream songs that are so easy to get sick of, there's always that station on the edge of the FM spectrum, that plays rock.

But now, mainstream has won again. 107.5 will stop playing rock music, and NU107, the home of nurock, will be no more. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do without this radio station. This is where I first heard the songs that would become my favorite songs. This is the station that made me love music.

I couldn't think of anything to take a picture of today, because this day has been all about listening to the radio. So, my picture of the day is a screenshot of NU107's Live Access website. As you can see, there's a crowd inside the studio, and there are over 3000 people viewing the live stream (there's normally only around 100 or less). The jocks are saying their goodbyes and playing the best rock songs ever.

I think I'm going to cry, too.

Day 141 - Christmas Choir

After my class today, I stopped at SM Southmall to pay my cellphone bill, but wouldn't you know it, the Globe* office there is currently undergoing renovation so I ended up just watching this choir perform Christmas songs in the middle of the mall. Talk about having Christmas just around the corner, the malls aren't just playing Christmas songs anymore, they're actually having live performances of it. I didn't catch their name, but they were pretty good.

Day 85 - Flute Choir

Saan pa kayo nakakita ng impromptu/informal flute choir recital?! Sa birthday party lang ng tito ko nangyayari 'yan! Hehehe. Nah, I'm sure if you're a musician then you've seen something like this or have been part of it before, or something. But since I am not a musician, I'm happy to at least be related to one.

FYI, my uncle, before he retired, was the principal flutist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, which is short for "He's the best flutist in the Philippines". If you disagree, don't bother to tell me. I'll admit that I'm biased since I'm not a flute person and hello, he's my uncle.

Anyway... Today was his 66th birthday celebration and because he recently retired, it was also a sort of retirement party. Hence, his former students and other music friends attended. After the honoring speeches, he and his students performed 3 songs for us. This is a screenshot of the video I took when they played the William Tell Overture. It was a real treat. I mean, how many people can say that they attended a birthday party where there was a flute choir that played? Before this, I didn't even know that flute choirs existed. Shows how "cultured" I am. Hahaha.
