Day 91 - Eternal Gardens

Today is my grandmother's death anniversary so I went to the cemetery with my parents, aunt, uncle, cousin, and 2 of my nephews. That particular tombstone is the one beside that of my grandparents'. We come here at least once a year, but not during the usual time (in the Philippines, it's November 1-2) to avoid crowds. It's a long way from our house but I actually sometimes like coming here. Does it sound morbid if I say that I like it when we have a picnic around my grandparents' grave?

P.S. Eternal Gardens, the title of this post, is the name of the cemetery.

Day 90 - Old Books

In search of Julia Quinn, I walked around Manila after my Japanese class. My school is located near a lot of universities so there were a lot of book stores in the area. Most of them sold second-hand books that are cheaper, and you can exchange them with your own old books. This goes for fiction and school reference books as well. What can I say? It's a student area.

I wasn't able to find Julia Quinn, though, and I ended up not buying anything. But there are about a million books there. I'm quite sure that one of these days I will end up buying something, or maybe exchanging the ones I have here at home that have become dusty over the years.

Day 89 - Not on the Menu

When my sister still lived here, she and her friends always used to eat at Cibo in ATC. So often that the waiters already knew them and could talk with them comfortably. Once, when they couldn't decide on what drink to order, the waiter recommended the Four Seasons fruit shake, which was basically a smoothie of four different fruits. Here's the catch: what four fruits they put in is subject to which fruit is available at the time you order it, so it could change at any time. Hence, it's not an item they put on the menu.

I like the unpredictability of little things like that, so I usually order this drink whenever I go to Cibo. This time, they mixed grape, watermelon, mango and strawberry. It was really yummy. :) But I've had a four seasons shake that had pineapple and pear before. That was yummy, too.

I like to think that this drink is a secret among Cibo and its loyal patrons, since it's not on the menu. And it reminds me of something that I probably read or heard somewhere -- that the best food/drinks in a restaurant are the ones that aren't on the menu. I think this may be some kind of proverb or double-meaning saying that says something about life, about how the best things in life are the ones that nobody tells you about, you know, the roads less traveled and things like that.

This particularly appeals to me, because I've long since believed that I'm not meant to have the life that people normally have. By that, I mean that people usually take this path: School-Work-Marriage-Kids. So far I've succeeded in only one of those things, school, but I don't really know if I want to succeed on the others. And I am including "work" in the others. By the way when I say "work", I mean, "work in a corporate environment". I don't know. I just don't think that that isn't the right path for me. Whatever. Why does a fruit shake suddenly make me think of these things?

Day 88 - Brunch

Ham and Cheese Sandwich with chips at White Chocolate Mocha ang inorder ko.

'Pag sinabi mo kasing "I went with my mom" parang sumama ako sa kanya, 'eh hindi naman.

Day 87 - Pasalubong ng Bayan

I went to ATC today to have my picture taken for an application form. What I'm applying for, I'll tell you about later (way later) so that I won't jinx it. The real story about this photo is that on the way back, I passed by a Dunkin' Donuts stall and figured what the hell. Very good strategy for Dunkin' Donuts to be located near an entrance/exit, since their thing is that they're the "pasalubong ng bayan" then yeah, they should be near the doors where people pass just before the point of no return of deciding on whether to get pasalubong or not.

The flavors you can see are Choco Candy Sprinkle and Chocolate Marble, but underneath there's also Bavarian Creme, Choco Butternut, Choco Honey Dipped, Strawberry-filled, Nutty Choco, and... Yeah, that's it. I wonder if you're hungry now?

P.S. I changed the layout of this blog because when I started, I think I said that I would change the layout by September and well, September is tomorrow.
